Analytics
Data analytics & insight
Descriptive and diagnostic analysis that explains what is happening, where and why, with clear indicators to track.
Data analytics consultancy · South Africa & worldwide
TAJ Consultancy helps government, business and development organisations in South Africa and around the world turn census, survey, spatial and operational data into clear answers, and builds the software and apps to act on them.
Services
We cover the full path: collecting and cleaning data, modelling it, and building the dashboards, software and apps that put the results to work.
Analytics
Descriptive and diagnostic analysis that explains what is happening, where and why, with clear indicators to track.
GIS
Maps and spatial analysis down to small-area level: service access, catchments, hotspots and boundary matching.
Demography
Population estimates and projections that combine census, survey and administrative data for planning.
Engineering
Reliable pipelines, SQL databases and data warehouses that clean, join and document your data in one place.
Reporting
Interactive dashboards and automated reports that keep managers up to date without manual spreadsheet work.
Data science
Predictive models, forecasting, classification and clustering, built and tested so the results can be trusted and explained.
Surveys
Sampling plans, questionnaires, weighting and analysis so survey results represent the population they describe.
Software
Custom tools, APIs and automated data workflows, written as clean, tested and documented code your team can maintain.
Apps
Web and mobile apps for data capture, field surveys and self-service reporting, connected to your databases.
Skills
Hands-on training in Python, SQL and data literacy so your team can maintain and extend the work.
Who we work with
Evidence for policy and planning: population estimates, service-delivery indicators and programme monitoring.
Ward and small-area profiles, infrastructure and service-access mapping, and growth projections for IDPs.
Monitoring and evaluation, baseline and endline studies, impact evaluation, biostatistics and donor reporting, in South Africa and abroad. See our NGO services.
Market and site analysis, customer insight and operational reporting for retail, property and financial services.
Data preparation, statistical support and reproducible analysis for research projects.
For NGOs & development partners
We help NGOs, donors and development agencies plan, measure and report on their programmes, with analysis that holds up to donor and peer review.
Results frameworks, theories of change, logframes and indicator plans, plus routine monitoring systems that track progress against targets.
Study design, sampling, data collection support and analysis that show how outcomes change over the life of a programme.
Experimental and quasi-experimental designs, such as randomised trials, difference-in-differences and propensity score matching, to estimate what a programme achieved.
Analysis of health and clinical data: prevalence and incidence, survival analysis, regression models and sample size calculations.
Digital questionnaires on tools such as KoboToolbox and ODK, with built-in checks, offline field capture and clean data at the end.
Checks that reported figures match source records, with clear findings and practical fixes for your data systems.
Indicator tracking tables, donor reports and dashboards that keep funders, boards and programme teams informed.
Survey, census and spatial data combined to show where needs are greatest, so resources reach the right places.
Coding of interviews and focus groups, combined with survey results to explain not just what changed but why.
Training for programme and M&E staff in indicator design, data management and analysis.
Our approach
Our name is our method: we agree on the target, do the analysis, and see the journey through to results your team can use.
Define the question, the decision it supports and how success will be measured.
Collect, clean and combine the data, then model it with methods suited to the question.
Deliver the findings in plain language and hand over tools your team can keep using.

About
Based in South Africa, we work with clients at home and internationally, remotely or on site, across time zones.
Our team brings together experienced data analysts, statisticians, data scientists, GIS specialists and software developers who have worked on a wide range of projects for government, NGOs, research institutions and the private sector. Each project draws on the mix of skills it needs, from study design to finished software.
We know South African data well, from Stats SA census and survey data to Small Area Layer boundaries, and we work just as comfortably with international sources such as World Bank and UN datasets, other national statistics offices and open global data like OpenStreetMap.
We handle personal information in line with POPIA and, for clients abroad, the data protection rules that apply to them, such as GDPR. Our work is code-based and documented, so every figure can be traced back to its source and rerun when new data arrives.
